I endorse Ashley. No more of the status quo. It’s time for new people with common sense solutions. If you want thriving small businesses and safe neighborhoods then Ashley is your choice.
Ashley is prepared to take the hard issues head on, working on the real problems our town is facing. More than buzzwords of “Public Safety”, “Housing” and “Small Business Support”. I am confident Ashley will affect change and utilize common sense to help work through solutions. I endorse Ashley not because she is a politician but because she is concerned for her hometown and is willing to stand up to the machine.

Far too long we have had city leadership that is good at making excuses and nothing else. Using the same approaches that have failed time and time again. Never ever wanting to try a new approach other than to raise taxes. They seem to enjoy the job, but never seem to get the job done. For this reason we are voting for Ashley. She understands the blatant frustrations the hard working, tax payers of this community are feeling.

As a former small business owner in downtown Santa Cruz, I felt the City turned a blind eye to the drug addicts and defecating homeless my customers encountered on a daily basis outside my gym doors. I needed City support to rectify an obvious problem for downtown merchants. Instead, I was continually inundated with increasing fees and taxes. The City Council needs a spokesperson for small business merchants. I closed my downtown gym and restructured my business model so I didn’t have to go downtown any longer. I support Ashley Scontriano for City Council and believe she has the breadth of knowledge necessary to navigate where the City is falling short when it comes to advocating for small business.

As a Santa Cruz resident and business owner for the past twenty years it is clear to me that the policies followed by the City for more than a generation have failed to improve the quality of life in our community.
Housing is in crisis, crime is up, the beaches are polluted and the homeless problem is getting worse. Taxes, fees and regulations are destroying any incentive to start or expand a small business. Homeowners are being asked to shoulder the costs of rent control as well as increased taxes to fund projects they don’t want and the City can’t afford, while the City faces budget deficits for the foreseeable future and unfunded pension and health care costs exceeding $150 million.
The time has come to empower a new generation of leaders, free of the political baggage accumulated over the past forty years, who understand the needs of our citizens and will offer fresh ideas, perspective and common sense in dealing with the serious problems facing the City. Leaders who will advocate for our small business community, will reign in wasteful spending and bloated City government, will support pro-active law enforcement and will protect the rights of homeowners and senior citizens on fixed incomes.
I believe that Ashley Scontriano is such a leader. With a long family history in Santa Cruz she understands the concerns of the people and knows first-hand the challenges facing small business owners in the City. She is not afraid to tackle the tough issues in a fair and objective manner to reach a solution that is in the best interest of all the citizens of Santa Cruz. I believe Ashley has the knowledge, determination and genuine concern for the people of the City that will allow her to be an effective member of the City Council.
For those who their voice has not been heard under the oppressive regime that has ruled this area for decades. For those who dare not venture downtown anymore because of sporadic violence, and aggressive behavior. For those business owners who toil day after day, only to be robbed, vandalized, and accosted by criminals, only to see them ooze in and out of the Justice system with no accountability. For those with children who want to make use of our beautiful public spaces again without concern over needles, trash, and bio-hazards. For those who believe our elected officials should represent them and not criminals.
This is your moment. This is your chance to speak, to represent, and to send a message that we have had #enough. We believe in compassion, but we also demand that our public policy favor those who choose to abide by our laws. Ashley is running for Santa Cruz City Council and if you believe the same then voting for her is not enough. Tell your friends, write letters, speak out, volunteer because it’s going to take all of us to take on the incumbent machine.
Let’s not let this very critical opportunity pass us by. It starts right here, right now.
It’s Time. Vote Ashley for City Council.
Ashley and I used to be neighbors and she has since then become a client and friend of mine. Her voice in the community has been a breath of fresh air. She is giving, dedicated and hard working and I have no doubt that she will bring a sense of union, growth and a much needed positive development for our community.

I attended Ashley’s kickoff event and was really impressed with her poise, intelligence and passion with regard to the issues plaguing our city. I especially liked that she focused some of her energy on the downtown businesses. Because she is a business owner in our city, she has a front row seat in understanding how hard it is to thrive in an environment that is plagued by criminal behaviors. I am positive that she will focus on our safety concerns for all citizens…especially when we are shopping or visiting in our downtown. Her own experiences have given her the desire and drive to make Santa Cruz safe and clean for everyone. I encourage you to vote for Ashley in November.
I had the pleasure of working closely with Ashley in organizing a Community Engagement event at the clock tower after a local woman was sexually assaulted there in broad daylight. Her energy and tenacity is impressive. Ashley is committed to public safety and supporting local businesses. She is a driving force for positive change and is not beholden to any of the “powers that be”. She is willing to take the County to task on public safety & public health issues. Enough of the status quo and turning a blind eye to the real problems that the hard working people of this town are facing.
Ashley is like a breath of fresh air in this city council campaign. She’s not the typical Santa Cruz politician looking for attention here. She’s genuinely concerned with the state of the city, and the lack of action being taken to address some of the biggest issues we face here. She doesn’t represent anyone’s “special interests”, and I have full confidence in her ability to lead and manage the city in a better direction that we are currently headed.

I have the pleasure of knowing Ashley and I fully support her campaign for Santa Cruz City Council.
Ashley has shown she’s very educated, knowledgeable and confident. She’s focused on solutions for the issues burdening our City. She has answered endless questions we’ve had about housing, safety, the environment, and the building permit process.
I really appreciate that Ashley is independent and not bought and paid for by special interest folks. She’s a Peoples candidate vs. endorsed by the same old guard. She’ll work hard, ask the tough questions, and ensure accountability.
With Ashley on City Council, I look forward to safer neighborhoods & parks, housing solutions, and thriving businesses.
Bottom line, She Gets It!
Vote Ashley for City Council 2018.
